Career transition coaching to reignite your purpose
Your career isn’t something that happens to you. It’s something you manage and navigate intentionally.
Shift180 is a career transition coach for professionals in Calgary and across Canada moving through job loss, a career change, or a planned career pivot. Whether you are considering a promotion, planning a strategic move, facing unexpected job loss, or ready to intentionally step into what’s next, you get grounded support to move forward with clarity and confidence.
Uncertainty is a normal part of career change
Career change, planned or not, often hits harder than people expect. It disrupts your routine, tests your confidence, and clouds your sense of direction. But here's what matters: whether the change happened to you or you're choosing it, you don't have to be passive about what's next.
Working with a career change coach helps you make sense of what is shifting, rebuild confidence, and step into a next chapter that fits who you are now. With the right support, the change becomes a chance to build your career into something that works for you.

Why Shift180
We help you manage your career, before, during and after transition
Most career advice rushes straight to the resume. Most career coaches focus on helping you survive a career crisis. As a professional transition coach, Shift180 starts with the part nobody talks about: your mindset, your identity, and the confidence shifts that decide how you will move forward.
We separate professionals who react to career change from those who navigate it with intention.
Coaching is led by founder, Val Douglas, who brings over 25 years in leadership and business operations. She has experienced 4 unexpected layoffs and intentionally built 3 major career pivots, coming back stronger each time. That lived experience is why she knows your career is something you manage and navigate intentionally. She is certified as a leadership and performance coach with career coaching training, an advanced practitioner in Hope-Action Theory, a certified Insights Discovery practitioner, and the author of three career-focused books. Her approach is steady and respectful, supporting forward movement without forcing it.
Questions, answered
Career transition coaching questions, answered
What is career transition coaching?
It is structured support for professionals moving through a career change or job loss. Rather than focusing only on resumes and applications, Shift180 works on mindset, confidence, and clarity so you can identify your strengths, explore real options, and build an intentional plan for your next career move.
What does a career transition coach do?
A career transition coach helps you process the change, identify your strengths and transferable skills, weigh new directions, and build a realistic plan to move forward. The focus is on mindset, strategy, and real practices as much as logistics, so you act from confidence rather than panic.
Who do you work with?
Professionals in Calgary and across Canada who are facing a layoff, planning a career pivot, or rebuilding after job loss. If you are between roles or sensing it is time for a change, coaching gives you a grounded place to figure out what is next.
How do I know it's time to change careers?
Common signs include persistent disengagement, dreading the work week ahead, feeling capped in your current role, or sensing your values and your role have drifted apart. A short consultation helps you understand if this is a rough patch or a real need to change.
I'm considering a promotion. Why would I need a career coach?
A promotion is a big career move. It often involves new responsibilities, new teams, new pressures, and decisions about whether it truly aligns with what you want. Career coaching for promotion helps you think through the opportunity strategically, understand the real requirements, and step in with solid footing and a clear plan.
I haven't been happy in my role and I'm thinking about leaving, but I'm not sure what's next. How can coaching help?
Coaching helps you get honest about whether you want to leave or whether you just need to adjust something within your current role. We explore what's driving the feeling, what you're actually looking for, and what your real options are. This clarity prevents reactive decisions and helps you move intentionally.
I'm established in my career and ready to grow. What could coaching do for me?
Mid-career professionals often face a different challenge: they've built success, but they're uncertain about what comes next or whether their current path still fits. Strategic career coaching helps established professionals navigate intentional next steps, whether that's advancement, a pivot, or a different kind of success.
Do you coach midlife and second-career changes?
Yes. Many clients are experienced professionals navigating a midlife career change or planning a second career. The work builds on what you've already built rather than asking you to start over.
Do you offer coaching in person or online?
1:1 coaching is virtual, so you can work together from anywhere in Canada. Group coaching runs online in small sessions. In-person workshops are offered periodically in select cities, with dates posted on the coaching page.
How much does coaching cost?
Group coaching is $175 for three sessions. 1:1 coaching begins with a free 30-minute intro session, after which you get a plan and pricing matched to your goals. The book is a lower-cost way to start on your own.
Is the career change consultation free?
Yes. The first 30-minute intro is complimentary, with no obligation to continue.
How is this different from outplacement or a resume service?
Resume and outplacement services focus on the job search itself. Shift180 starts a step earlier, with the emotional and identity side of job loss that shapes how you show up in that search. You leave with renewed confidence and a clear direction, not just a polished document.
I'm not in Calgary. Can we still work together?
Yes. Shift180 is based in Calgary and works with clients across Canada through virtual 1:1 and online group coaching.
What's the first step?
Book a free 30-minute intro session. It is a no-pressure conversation to talk through where you are, what you are facing, and whether coaching is the right fit.
Your path forward starts here
Whether you're planning your next career move or facing an unexpected shift, the principle is the same: your career is something you navigate intentionally. Let's talk about how.
